One recent client never used her beautiful cottage lounge due to the lack of light in the room. It was only used on Christmas Day or on rainy, chilly winter days when they lit the fire.
To address this, we first removed the heavy, lined curtains that were covering the sides of the window openings and lifted the existing Roman blinds higher above the windows. This alone significantly increased the natural daylight in the room.
The existing sofa and armchairs were dark brown leather, which absorbed the natural light. We decided to sell these on eBay, and the proceeds went towards purchasing a new bright-colored, clever velvet corner sofa from the Loaf clear-out sale. Despite a slightly soiled back and a damaged leg, we snapped it up for a bargain!
We also arranged a small gallery wall showcasing some of the client’s favorite artwork and decluttered the bookshelves.
We went cushion shopping in Homesense and 14 cushions later, for a total price of £100, we had all we needed!
Now, the family uses the living room every evening throughout the year.
